If you are either new to the game or have played before, we always welcome new members to the club. If you wish for further information, fill in the form below and Gavin Strachan, the Club Secretary, will be more than willing to help out. Alternatively you can just turn up on a Thursday night at 7:30 and play.
Brentwood Chess Club is a small chess club that has been established for over 100 years. We have two teams that play in the Essex Chess League and two teams in the NECL (a new team being entered this year!). We also play in knockout competitions such as the NECL Knockout Cup and the Essex League Summer Rapidplay.
Our 1st Team plays in the 2nd Division of the Essex League and the 2nd Team in the 4th Division (the league has had a major change and expanded in divisions). The A Team plays in the 2nd Division of the NECL and the new B Team will play in the 3rd Division. All this is to be confirmed after the league meetings have taken place in September but that is what we agreed upon at our last AGM.
The club is open every week of the year (except Xmas and New Year). The league season
is from September to May, whilst during the Summer we usually run a tournament and
have friendly matches against other local clubs.
The club holds regular competitions/events
such as a lightening tournament, simultaneous display and a club championship. As
well as competitive chess, you can always just pop along and play casual games on
a regular basis with other members. All new members are always welcome to come along
on a Thursday at 7:30pm until late.
